Xbox Series X: Almost two years into the new generation

Xbox brand is stronger than ever before thanks to the array of innovative products it has been offering during the last part of the previous generation.

The last generation did not start well for Microsoft. Back in 2013 when Xbox One was announced, it was a disaster for the big M.

While the console looked good on paper, the price and bundle offered showed what Microsoft got wrong with Kinect and the Xbox One from the very beginning.

But the biggest downside was the need to be online all the time to play your games. Oddly enough, almost ten years later we see how Microsoft got away with it, without users even knowing or complaining about it.  Microsoft just pushed us towards what they originally had intended with digital products and services.

Seven years later and with a few hardware revisions under their belt, Microsoft has announced a successor to the One.

To be honest, the name became a bit intricate, as it was called Xbox Series. It comes in two different versions, at the time of writing this article: Series S and Series X.

Series S is an all-digital console with a bit less power than Series X. The console is aimed to play in 1080p with 60 frames per second. It is more affordable, and you can find it for around 300 dollars.

On the other hand, its big brother is Series X, which is at this moment, the most powerful console on the market. It has an optical drive, and it aims for resolutions up to 4k and 60 frames per second. The price is 499 dollars if you can find it…

Missing in action

So, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, Series X, as with many graphic cards and PlayStation 5 are extremely hard to find.

It is related to the well-known microchip shortage we have been going through over the last two years. It is not only affecting consoles but car manufacturers, too.

Xbox Series X is very hard to find, but those who can claim to be owners of one know how good the console is. It is exceptionally silent, efficient, and beautiful.

So, it is all about the games. Microsoft is playing it smart with this new console generation. They know the quality leap is not that big from the last generation, so combined with the shortage of consoles, they are mostly dedicated to pushing other Microsoft products and keep most games working on both Xbox One and Series, with minimal performance differences.

Another thing they are pushing is xCloud, which is one of the biggest gaming technology trends in 2022.

It is a subscription service, included with Game Pass that allows you to play Xbox games in the cloud. These servers run on Xbox Series X consoles in batches located around the world and allow you to play Xbox games from virtually any device that runs on android or PC. And even better, you can play on your Xbox One with the performance of a Series X console.

The power of Edge

Xbox Series X (and Xbox One, too) have a built-in Edge browser in their operating system. This means that you can use your console to surf the web, but it goes way beyond that. Edge is one of the best Chromium-based browsers and it allows you to play emulators and web-based games.

If you are an adventure player, you must know that now it’s possible to play the first Tomb Raider game from your browser. This game doesn’t need any introduction; given that everyone knows the archaeologist, Lara Croft. The game is based in locations like Peru, Egypt, and Greece where you will find some obstacles to achieving their goal.

However, if you are a fan of online slots, you can play these types of games straight from the console’s internet browser. You can experience the best online slot games on your big screen and even connect a mouse and keyboard to make it more convenient. They accept the most popular payment methods including credit cards, PayPal, and wire transfers. They also offer big promotions and jackpots for you to win, straight from your gaming console.

A year and a half after its release, the console keeps surprising us with its performance. Unfortunately, it is still very hard to find, and you will need to be on the hunt for it for a while.

That said, Microsoft is making it easy for its fans by expanding the life of Xbox One. While the Series consoles are fantastic, they are not needed at the moment, and you can afford to wait a few more months or even a year.

99% of the games are launching for both console generations, with minimum differences. Plus, they are upgradable for free once you get your hands on the new version of the console.
